“Roasted-meat, smoke and savory notes, plus a slew of blackberry and bitter-chocolate character. On the palate the major tannin structure gives this a lot of drive, but there’s more than enough richness to balance it. Very long, dry and mineral finish. Better from 2021.” - James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com
“Deep garnet-purple colored, it leaps from the glass with notes of black cherries, fresh blackberries and blackcurrants with touches of tilled soil, garrigue, wild thyme and black tea. Full, firm, grainy and laden with black fruits and earthy layers, it finishes with great length.” - Lisa Perotti-Brown
A dry January was followed by a wet February, while temperatures remained mild. Bud break was early but slowed as April arrived with consistent showers. The growing season proceeded at a leisurely pace, allowing fruit to reach full maturity with balanced acid and complex layers of flavor.
Lampyridae, 'firefly' in Latin, is Napa's highest vineyard at approximately 2400 ft elevation. This picturesque vineyard is high above the fog layer and has longer hours of sunshine and warmer nights, but days are cooler than the lower elevation vineyards. On clear days you can see all the way to San Francisco.
