Tasting Notes

The Marston Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon presents as dark ruby in the glass with a violet tinge near the edge. On the nose, plum, pomegranate, and a waft of softer floral notes. Deeper notes of oak spice and white pepper mesh with a bit of mountain minerality and cedar. On the palate, plums and pomegranate reappear once again, with the floral flavors shining through more so than on the nose. Good acidity and solid tannins help support the mountain aromas and flavors leaving a beautifully fruity finish to linger for minutes. Drink now with decant, or age over the next two-and-a-half decades.

“Aromas of ripe dark fruit, sweet tobacco, vanilla, chocolate and wet soil. Full body. Round and polished with firm tannins and deep core of fruit. Long aftertaste with plush fruit and a velvety, chocolate-like texture. Try now but better after 2025.” - James Suckling, February 2022

Winemaking

Ryan Rech - Winemaker

He was appointed Sr. Winemaker and General Manager in 2017 and elevated to Chief Winemaker in 2021. Ryan is honored to bring recognition to the wines produced at one of Napa Valley’s best known and most beloved wineries, following in the footsteps of a roster of acclaimed chief winemakers such as Ed Sbragia, Myron Nightingale, Laurie Hook, and Mark Beringer.

Vintage

Abundant late winter rains gave the soils much-needed moisture to kick off the 2019 growing season. The long, warm summer saw few extreme heat events and the typical foggy mornings set the stage for producing vibrant and expressive wines. The long, relatively mild finish to the season helped preserve freshness and finesse in the fruit with extended hangtime producing great color, flavor, structure, and tannin. Overall, the season was marked by exceptional fruit development with bright acidity – an outstanding vintage of wine.
