Tucked away in the Mayacamas foothills, Knights Valley has remained largely unchanged over the decades. The wildness of its landscape is evident in its uniquely complex wines. Discover a new face of Cabernet.

Standing in our Knights Valley vineyards, it’s impossible to underestimate the influence of our closest neighbor, the sleeping volcano, Mount Saint Helena, that rises over 4,000 feet above the Mayacamas foothills.

When you pour a glass of our Knights Valley wines, you’re seeing the journey that led through the natural history of the Mayacamas Foothills and the volcanic soil created by Mount Saint Helena, leading to six decades of stewardship by Beringer and our sustainably farmed, integrated vineyards that grow in harmony with nature. It’s this many-layered history that makes those spectacularly complex and concentrated wines possible, and what drove our quest to garner official recognition of the AVA in 1983

geography

Mayacamas Foothills

The surrounding mountains contribute to warm days and cool nights, adding structure and elegance to the wine.

Volcanic Soil

Knights Valley is famed for its volcanic soil from Mount Saint Helena. The excellent drainage, low fertility, and high mineral content of this soil contribute to small, high-acid berries which yield structured, savory and concentrated wines. The reserve blocks of our vineyard are further distinguished by large stones scattered among the vines, similar to the galets of Châteauneuf du Pape. These stones trap and reflect back heat, contributing to ideal ripening conditions.

Integrated Vineyards

Integration of nature is a key feature of the vineyards, including ancient oak trees, herbs, and wildflowers. This creates flavor complexity, including Knights Valley Cabernet’s distinct aromas of lavender, boysenberry, and thyme.

Pioneered

by Beringer

Since the mid-1960s, Beringer has owned, farmed, and brought recognition to the wild land that is Knights Valley. We are proud to say the AVA is almost entirely farmed by Beringer today.
