Tasting Notes

Radiating a delicate peach blush with glimmers of pale coral, the 2023 Mountain Rosé instantly captivates with its vibrant color and aromatic charm. On the nose, fragrant notes of ripe lychee, jasmine petals, crushed strawberry, and candied lime zest mingle harmoniously, hinting at the layers of flavor to come. The palate is met with a soft, silky texture balanced by refreshing acidity, revealing succulent flavors of juicy white peach, wild raspberry, and a touch of honeydew. A lingering hint of pink guava and a mineral finish make for a well-rounded, crisp wine that is both invigorating and elegant. Perfectly suited for al fresco dining or unwinding on a late summer evening, this rosé is best enjoyed young to capture its peak of freshness and aromatic intensity.

Winemaking

Crafted to be aromatic, bright, and fruit-forward, the grapes for our Mountain Rosé are picked at night to take advantage of cool temperatures. Once destemmed, the berries are left for a few hours in the press to provide a very light touch of color. After a very controlled and soft pressing, the ‘stabulation’ technique is implemented where the juice is kept cold at around 30°F-32°F and mixed daily for several days before beginning its fermentation. This imparts more flavor and helps the wine develop even more aromatic intensity. The fermentation itself is low and slow at 55°F and can often take weeks to complete. Once fermentation is completed, the wine is racked clean off its lees and stored in stainless steel vessels to preserve the bright aromatics for bottling.

Vintage

The 2023 growing season in Knights Valley was characterized by consistent, mild weather and one of the longest growing seasons in recent memory. This vintage saw extended hang time and above-average crop yields. Winter and spring rains provided full reservoirs and healthy soils, while the mild summer weather supported healthy canopy growth and slow, even ripening. The result was fruit with purity, elegance, and optimal ripeness.

Vineyard

Located in a remote, bucolic region of Sonoma County, just 17 miles north of the Beringer Napa winery, Knights Valley lies in the shadow of Mount St. Helena. There, hilly terrain descends to rocky, alluvial soils where ancient rivers once ran.
